my 1993 camry makes a very strange noise when i accellerate and when it at idle...it idles at about 800rpm and has this clicking noise...umm cant really explain the noise....maybe if you are running a stick across a wooden fence...but the noise is higher pitched than that...my mechanic said that i needed premium gas...but when i put in premium i still hear the noise...anybody know whats going on?

Could be valve tick.

Open the hood, start the car, and listen to the engine. See where the ticking is coming from

I have 1999 model camry and have exactly same problem
I also heard that noise from old ES300 that shares same engine and transmission.
unlike you It get's little bit better with premium fuel with mine
strange!
