Is the 7mGTE still manufactured?

I'm looking at a '91 Turbo Supra and the guy says its a new 7m imported from Japan.

I'm not even gonna begin to make assumptions whether its true or not, but I'm skeptical enough to ask.

BTW, just to clarify, he said new as in brand new... not refurbished/rebuilt, not used engine out of a parts car installed 'new'.

I guess if its true they are still made, are there enough improvements on the 7m series over the past 13 years to warrant the extra cost? Obviously engine wear is a consideration regardless but...

No... it's most likely a used engine. If he got it imported... they generally have around 30k - 40k miles on them.... or so people say. Ask if he has the gauge cluster that came with the motor.... that will tell you what was really on it

Possibly, but be advised that "shortblock" means that only the lower end and internals have been replaced. That doesn't include the heads, manifolds, oil pan, turbo components, ect. Complete engines from Japan usually have about 30-50K on them.

Toyota has discontunued production of most of their legacy engines. This includes the M and A series. I suspect the S series will be the next to go when they eventually discontinue the Altezza (3S-GE).

Funny...Someone just posted on the Toronto Supra Club site that he had the last 2 7M-GTE engines from the Canadian warehouse. Toyota was clearing them out as no one wanted to spend the roughly 5k they wanted for them. Longblocks, still on the pallets (real deal, one of our guys checked them out and bought the 89+ one).
