I need some help figuring out what's wrong with the a/c on my 90 Camry - it works fine first thing in the morning, runs a little while and then the compressor kicks off - leave it off for a while and it'll come back on for a little while longer but then kicks off again - any ideas on how to figure this out would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe

hasn't the compressor always done this?

From my experiences with ac units in automobiles, it only comes on intermittantly. It will never stay on constantly the entire time.

It should only come on for short spurts at a time and it will turn itself off, and then come on again, even if the ac button is on, and the fan is all the way on full blast.

Thanks for your comments - there's more going on then normal operation - the A/C light starts blinking and the manual states this means something is wrong and the A/C will cut itself off automatically - that's what happens and it quits cooling - I'm thinking it may be a pressure problem but thought you'd have more specific ideas - thanks for your comments - Joe

I would try to diagnose for refridgerent leaks, or taking your car to a dealership, simply ask what the blinking ac light could mean and see what they say.

I am not sure.. maybe someone else here could help??

Thanks again - I did ask the local dealer and was told there are many possiblities and I'd have to leave it for a couple of days. Being disabled and unemployed I have to count the pennies so I am trying to figure it out - I've got a buddy who does all my heavy wrench turning but he's also at a loss - no A/C experience - thanks again for your input. Joe
