Question 3sgte head on 2.2

could i put the 3sgte head on the 2.2 block and keep it all motor. i have been told the "g" heads flow a lot better. what kind of performance gains could i expect from doing this. or should i get the 3sgte head and turbo my engine. any input and info would be greatly appreciated

my car is a 1991 mr2

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought the 91 MR2 was a 3SGTE which means it IS turboed. Did that generation come with anything else?

I'm not sure if you can lose the 't' in the 3sgte.... you might have better luck using the head of a 3sge? Or just doing a beams 3sge swap if you can find one.

the 3s-gte head flows more, but has cams setup for a turbo motor (low lift and duration, small overlap, I believe...). You could try a 3s-ge head instead. You will need standalone engine management or something to run they hybrid motor... so good luck!

I vote that you just do a turbo or a swap. (not that either of those is easy... but both have been done before)

I'll be darned. I never knew there was any option but the 3SGTE in the MR2. Hmm.
I haven't seen the 3SGE heads, but I wouldn't run the 3SGTE head without a turbo, they are friggin huge ports. Terrible velocity in a NA application. I think the turbo manifold will bolt onto the 5SFE head though, if you go that route.

Welcome to the board, this question has been asked a bunch of times, try doing a search for 5SGTE or 5SGE and you'll find some very good answers.
