How can I check if my ignition system is working properly. Do those ignition amplifires realy work. I don't wan't to spend 800 for an HKS unit. That Jacobs ignition unit looks nice.

Do you know the actual price for the MSD unit? How hard would it be for me to install in my 86 MR2?

the install itself isnt hard... but the main thing u gotta buy is the transformer toyota's require a transformer... without this boom ur msd ignition box is fried... normally if u wanna do install u'd email msd themselves for the iwiring diagram of ur car... just tell them ur car engine and year u should be easy... but dont forget to get the trasnformer .... price range is from 200-600 CAD depending on which one u got... im using the MSD SCI at the time whne i got it price was 250 now its only 200 so not a bad buy the digital ignition system run at about 400-600 depending on model i think...

hope this helps ya.. let me know if there's anything else...

no they do similar things but completely different ways if u have msd7al in ur car its not for street use so u're just wasting ur cash unless u got a super done up mod in ur car that will require the 7al.. the 6al and SCI-L are essentially the same ones though....

hope this helps...

Depends which one you buy.

Installation is pretty simple. Theres 6 wires on the box itself. You got power (+12V), ground, 2 trigger wires, and 2 output wires to the coil.

Theres also a little plug on the box thats for a magnetic pickup. The tach adapter (MSD 8910HEI / 8910EIS) plugs into this.

The hardest part to figure out is which 2 wires to splice into for the trigger. On my 88 Camry I spliced into the ignitor and unpluged some plug so that the stock coil no longer works.

If the stock coil on your car is internal like mine is you'll have to drill a hole in the distributor cap and mount on a post. This is if you want to use a external coil (MSD Blaster). If you use the stock coil with the MSD or if your stock coil is external you don't need to modify the distributor cap.

Don't forget about the tach adapter. You need MSD 8910EIS.

msd costs less than jacobs, but i like how jacobs doesn't require cutting wires, but i heard bad stuff about their ignitions. any one know how to install MSD in a 4age? will it need an adapter?
