Does anyone know what kind of coolant a 92 Camry uses?

Are you asking what refrigerant? If so, I'm pretty sure it would be R12, cars built 1995 and later use R134-A, if your car has R12 and has leaked out, you can either convert to 134-A, or there are some new alternative "drop in" refrigerants, going to 134-A, you have to change compressor oil, hoses and all seals, add 134-A test/charging ports, the newer alternative refrigerants will work with your oil and hoses now, just fix the leak first, then pull a good vacuum for about 45 minutes, charge your new refrigerant in to roughly 80% of what your R12 info plate shows from the factory. Only thing, you have to have a licesnce to buy most refrigerants, here in California, anyone can still buy 134-A, I like a newer one called "Freeze 12" it is very close to the operating temps of R12. If you look up Freeze12's website, it has a test you can take to get the licesne, it cost about 50 bucks I think.

It takes R12...I'm getting the conversion to R134a done next week, it'll cost me around $300 Cdn (at T-Lex). Everything mentioned above will be included, however, I will be getting a new filter as well (about $80). However, another company quoted me only $125 for the whole conversion, but no filter.

Anyone know if it's necessary in the long run to change the filter?
