I'm rebuilding a 5S-FE. I got the piston in and head bolt on. Put on timing belt try to do compression test.
It sounds like its leaking from the bottom pass the rings. I used standard size ring. Bore was clean and honed. I put oil on broe and piston when I install it. The cylinder just not getting pressurize.
Should pull the head and check the rings? Do I have to change headgasket if I pull the head out again? Maybe pull some oil inside cylinder and on the valves?
Or its normal and I worry too much?
if you are in the middle of rebuilding and haven't already driven the car multiple times, thus *setting* the gasket, it should be fine in reusing. You didn't use a type of gasket gunk on both sides of the gasket did you, if so when you take the head back off, you'll tear it or stretch it.
Thanks, the engine is still "cold".
Should the block hold pressure during rebuild? Or the piston is too dry? Pull the head and add oil around the piston and try again?
how can you tell it's leaking past the rings on the bottom side??? no oil pan??
either way, your going to have to run the engine for a few hundred miles before the rings seat properly, from what i have heard. i have yet to crank my recent rebuild on my 5sfe. when i have time i still have to get the block and tranny together, then i can start her up.
Valves are close, lub not touching shims.
Yea oil pan is off. I check the valve when I turn it, not bubbling. I can hear bubbling at the buttom when I turn the crank.
I end up calling a few engine place and ask for advice.
No problem with the engine. Can't get enough compression with hand turning the crank. Need to use starter to test. One guy tell me to fill engine with oil, crank it a few time without spark plug to get oil moving.
I'm rebuilding another engine and then swap. Old one still in the car with 2 side engine mount, axle, PS pump and wires. Gonna get it out this week. It going to snow next week in Toronto

Pineapple that motor looks sweat! Good job man. you should do a write up and post. or better yet make a cd of the entire thing and sell it, I've seen sure things being sold on ebay, and people are buying it.
