I am about to instll an MSD 6A ignition system on my 96 Camry (4-cyl 5S-FE). After reading the wiring diagrams on the Camry and the MSD box, everything hooks up except the IGF signal coming back from the igniter to the ECU. The idea of this signal is to tell the ECU that the igniter is working.

How do I supply this signal back to the ECU when the MSD box is installed?

I posted this on TeamSC3, but haven't got a response.

Thanks,
Steve

I landed up installing the MSD boost retard module and the 8910EIS adapter. The setup works perfectly on my '96 turbo'd 5S-FE. The ECU has no problem with it.

Let me know if you need more info.

Huh? If you just installed the 8910EIS, there would be no change in your ignition system at all. It is just an adapter that goes along with another piece, like the 6BTM or one of the AL or SCI ignition amps.

The 8910EIS converts the ignition signal so the aftermarket ignition system can fire appropriately. Without it, the size of the ignition pulse is too small (as I viewed it on an oscilliscope) and the system won't fire at all.

The 8910EIS is only part of the aftermarket ign system.

steve sorry man... i didnt post the rest i was just sayin about the upgrade to ignition modules.. im using MSD sci w/ blaster SS external coil with the 8910EIS i had so much probs not knowing about the 8910EIS i mean i known it but there was 2 kinds one for chevy's one for toyota.. and back then no diff only for chevys so i had so much freakin problems when the adaptor would heat up the engine shuts down!!! so it suckeD!!!!

but i got my proper adaptor like 3years ago and its been good since then but i still had it wired so i have a back up incase MSD dies again.. so its got a bypass wire so i can use my stock ignition system just with the blaster SS coil incase anything goes wrong.. kinda sucked gettin stuck in the middle of the road and the car not movin!!!!

I know what you mean...that's why when I wired in my 8910 unit, I took a wiring harness for the coil from an old Toyota motor and fabricated a new wiring harness that allowed me to keep all of the stock connectors on the original harness. Now if anything goes wrong, I can switch back to stock in about 15 seconds.

It wasn't so much I distrusted the MSD box as much as I didn't trust my work...also I really like keeping things as close to stock as possible.
