Hey guys, right now I've got stock speakers in my camry, I wanna replace them with some new speakers, all four.
Can someone suggest me if its worth it to do so without buying an amp and sub at this time? or should I just wait and get all speakers+sub+amp together? I have a nice clarion deck.
Could you guys tell me which speakers are good and are best buys for the buck? I need specs and brands.. what to look for, in nice speakers, and that would be very workable with my new amp i'd buy near future.
More importantly, is there any size limit/specification on gen3's speakers? whats this i hear about 2-way and 3-way speakers? 6x9? i see them pretty cheap like US$40 bucks on eBay. also got a quote of C$100 for a set of blaupunkt speakers. (dont know specs)
I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks alot!
for starters camrys (at least gen3's) have 4 speakers. Two 6.5" in the front and two 6x9" in the rear deck (sizes). 2 -way, 3-way , 4-way, refers to the number of tweeters in the speaker.More tweeters for higher and mid notes. From my experiences, unless your into competition, 2-ways do the trick, 3-way if you extra $$$. I want go ahead and change the speakers now if you want, but be careful. Make sure you have enough powerful. Do dont want weak speakers and them get a powerful amp and sub later , thus overwhelmingly bassy music. Make sure theres room watt wise to spare in case you need to add a 4channel amp.Hope that helps! ( what is the power of your clarion deck: ex. 40x4, 50x4 etc..?)

hey buddy. Ive got a gen 3 camry as well, and I had a 6 speaker set up?? 2 6x9's in the back, 2 6" on the doors and 2 tweeters in the handles (1"
I've replaced all of them, and for awhile (bout a month) I was only powering them from my deck (55wx4). The sound was DEFINATELY clearer, but by NO means louder.
Here's what I suggest. If you dont mind paying a little more $$$, Rockford Fosgate is the ultimate, literally, I tried tested and found it true.
The 6x9's in the back are now Clarion 3 ways.
My component set upfront, mids + highs, are all Fosgate now, titanium. Dude, the difference is night and day. The fosgates rock. I thought it would be like buying "Tommy Hilfiger" speakers, but NOOOO, they seriously DO kick. My 6x9's are clarions cuz the fossies were too $$$$, and the clarions sound fine too.
Now I have an amp running my interior speakers tho, so its WAYYYY louder now.
It all depends on budget. I'm happy to answer any stereo q's you've got...I've been through several
The deck is "Clarion DRX667-Z Hight Power 45Wx4"
Yeah, I will be getting a 4 channel amp, hopefully like between 500W to 800W?. My other concern was the power management. How will that much power be handled by my car?
hey steve, i know you got a gen3, i definitely remember meeting you man. thanks for your input and i'll be coming to u when i have more q's about stereo!
Alright so fossies it is. anything about the specs? watts? model#? I wasn't sure about tweeters, but sure do want them. Is it possible to have tweeters without having an amp as well?? if yes, i want! how difficult is it to mount them on to the doors or somewhere??
So the speakers, where do i get them from? know any place where they are good priced? what did you get them installed? or do it yourself?? i've got no experience by now u can probably tell :???:
and would u please explain what the component sets are??
what about the wirings and all that? relating to amp+subs installation, they say u gotta use nice good branded to get the most out of your amp!!!
:???:
I'm going to pick up my car right now, the paint job is done! I'll respond at night.

Alright....my words of advice is look ahead and make sure you know what you want. Here are the questions you must ask:
-How much am I willing to spend? )That's a big determining factor)
-How loud do I want to get? (just fill the lows w/ a sub or two? I want to annoy every neighbor in the hood? I want to compete?)
-How clear do I want the highs? (just better than stock? I want dolby digital baby?)
-When it comes to full range...if you are planning on adding an amplifier to the highs...the sky is the limit. I say definately go with at least 6.5in components if this is the case. If you are just wanting to add these to your existing deck...get 2-way, medium power handling coaxles. If you purchase too power-hungry speakers and don't have the power to feed them, you will be very disapointed with the imaging and will slowly tear them apart (from distortion).
Ok...sub wise...just tell me what you are planning on doing and I will try to make some suggestions.
With your question on if you should just wait and install everything at the same time...the only incentive is that something it is cheaper geting everything installed at the same time then by piecemail (assuming someone else is installing them). Take, for example, if you were installing both a sub amp and an amp for the full range speakers. It's typically easier (wiring wise and $ wise) to install both at the same time.
Anwyays...I know that was rambling....but just tell me some sense of your price range and desire output...and we will all try to give some suggestions

Sorry....didn't see your response. Since you are sure you will have a 4 channel amp, definately go with components in the front. Components are the full range speakers that have a separate woofer and tweater...like this:
As you see, the midrange woofer and tweater are separate, plus there is a crossover (the boxes) which takes the signal and separates the highs and lows and sends them to the appropriate speakers. Can't get as clean with coaxles (2ways,3ways,etc) and components can typically handle more power.
As I said, just give me a price range and Ill see what I can do (btw, components are significantly more pricy).
When it comes to power strains on the car, any aftermarket accessory will strain the battery and alternator. What I suggest is you get a capacitor, which basically saves a little power so that the amps are not directly pulling off the battery. These usually help keep the lights from flickering.
Theres a little more info

Yeppers Elegant....but it gets much more complicated when you get into the active crossovers.
Unlike the passive, active X-overs divide the audio BEFORE amplification, and thus multiple amps are required. For example, two-way active crossover systems will require two amplifiers, one for each group of frequencies.
I think the biggest downfall of passive crossovers is that they tend to soak-up a little of the power and that they are preset (based on the speaker's design). With active you can tweak and tune to your listening desires

Ok that I certainly did not know.
Oh well that means I've learned one new thing from you today.
Components = the mid speakers and your tweeters (highs). Mid speakers are usually about 4 inches to 6.5" . I have 6" in my door for ex. Highs are small, like 1". Yes, you can wire a "component" set (mids and highs) without adding an amp. The sound will NOT be louder, just clearer. If you want to run your interior speakers on an amp (I am) then go 4 channel.
Again, it depends on price range. Fosgate is sick dude, just sick. Your NOT buying Tommy Hilfiger speakers when you get these, it is a NIGHT AND DAY difference, trust me!!
Are you coming to the meet on Sunday bro?? if so, it would save a hell of a lot of posts if I can talk to you in person... you can ask all the q's you want, and this way I can SHOW you instead of tell you
60% of my install was done myself (aint no monkey in a shop drilling through my firewall), and 40% (basically cleaning up my mess) was done professionally.
I get my crap done at a place called CockPit in Mississauga. They are over-priced if they dont know you, but I have known Dean (head tech) for years and years so he hooks me up. Shop around, find some prices. Then if you want I'll go to my guys with you and see if they can beat it
I can't make it to the meet tomorrow, i'm going outa town tomoro morning for couple days. I'll try to make it though for the next one and we'll talk then.
