I was wondering if you can recommend a good 4 cylinder turbo engine made by toyota. Only specs required is that its RWD capable with multipoint EFI and a good turbo setup stock (mods will come once the engine is in the car). I have many friends in the wrecking network so to those more familiar with turbo engines could you post some recommendations up. This is to go into a 1982 Toyota Celica RWD, the 5 speed thats in it should mesh with alot of the newer engines according to mechanic friends. So any help you can give I'll appreciate, 1980's to mid 1990 engines would most suit this car and will be easy to find through my connections.
Cheers guys.
PS. I've been looking at this engine, but I dont know if it would suit my car? hopefully one of you know a little about these...Thing I dont think would work is that its a east-west mounted engine???
3S-GTE
Specs: 1998cc EFI DOHC 16-valve 4cyl turbo
Power: 168kW @6000rpm
Torque: 304Nm @3200rpm
Gearboxes: 4WD east-west mount and mid mount 5 speeds
Vehicles: Celica GT4 and 1990-on MR2 GT.
thing with that one I'm wondering is would my 5 speed which is stock in the 3rd Gen Celica's mesh with a more modern engine? and if I got the wiring and dash electronics out of the car for the engine recommened would that be the easiest way to adapt a Turbo engine into it?

Thanks for that, the stock Celica engine currently in there has a fair amount of grunt but I'm getting into the 4 cylinder drag racing and turning from expensive V8 racing (put me too far into debt). Are there any inherant problems with this engine or has it been proven a good engine? the little I read its highly reverred.

I was speaking of the 3sgte... that is a 4cyl. Biggest thing is that it eats through ignition components pretty quickly. Other than that there aren't any major problems.
thanks alot, those parts are no worries to get so I'll start asking around...
what about wiring? if your going from carbi to turbo/EFI would that require a full new re-wire of the main harness? I have dealt VERY little with turbo's so its all new to me. my main dealings have been with carbi and straight mechanical super chargers.
sorry for all the questions...

Yeah I know that, i'm just wondering about the nitty gritty of having that combined with the turbo it has...and what wiring and technical work needs doing in regards to that. I'm doing my own engine swap, all except the wiring...

3S-GTE RWD conversions are a dime a dozen in Puerto Rico ... All you need is to buy a custom Bell Housing for ... And you mate it to a W58 (MKIII Supra 5 speed) or a 6speed Soarer or was it a Aristo... I dont quite remember been awhile...
Are there any inherant problems with this engine or has it been proven a good engine?
Shims flying off at VERY HIGH RPMs, but you can convert to 1ZZ-FE engine buckets and voila!, also the N/A version (3S-GE) has this weird taste for spinning the main bearings

Your possibilities are almost endless for RWD Celica's...
2JZ-GTE
hi Wraith,
Actually today I found a guy who imports parts from Japan...his getting in half of a Supra that was in a smash (tail gated in Japan, the body was chopped to send the dash wiring and everything as a whole). So it looks like I'm going to go from a 31r-c carbi fed to a 2JZ-GTE EFI fed. I'm going to take out the current 5 speed also and drop the Supra gear box in if it will fit? considering this is a older Celica the cost supprisingly will be very much in the budget I was looking at.
Hopefully with the 2JZ in there it will severrly increase the power:weight ratio...which is what I want considering drag racing is my main forte.
lol this is gonna be a fair bit of work...are there any REALLY fast 80's celica's on here? I'm wanting to push for a mid 11 second 1/4 mile if I can. 10 second in australia is too fast, they ban your car from the track till a chute and rollcage is installed.
Cheers guys,
Wolfie

The are a bunch of older school, Celicas I know of here in Southern Cali running 10's @ 2707ft above sea level at a track called Palmdale... And they only making alittle over 330rwhp...
but I would suggest getting a solid rear axle to fit... Like the MKIII supra so you could install an LSD...
I suggest upgrading your brakes too because those brakes wont slow you down enough with the extra weight and power the 2JZ_GTE will put down
Hey Wraith, would you have the measurements of the 2JZ-GTE at all? I want to measure up the firewalls in my celica...I'm buying a half cut in from japan (as in a car cut in half, stuck in a crate with main harness, FULL dash, steering and all that.
Mine has a LSD on it now, which looks pretty new to me but I'm unsure whether that should be upgraded until I get underneath there...the 31r-c has even been slightly worked to my supprise (only got it on Sunday). and as for brakes that was going to happen anyways.
I know of Palmdale racetrack, and after looking into my options and what drag technical gear I have (eg. chutes etc) I may consider working the engine a bit to get to the 10's in this car. I'm going to try and minimise weight where I can, but its already lightweight (I'm used to racing V8s around the 3600 lbs mark).
Thanks for the help!

I would say, take a flight to New Zeland... Was speaking to one of the Kiwi girls that works at my dealership... Apparently you can get 2003AWD Turbo Camry's over there *drools*
All i can say is, i know where i will be importing my next car from

Nah I can do a full engine swap, respray and get body parts and it will still only cost around $5000...plus Camry's dont impress me much, I want a 1994 Supra when I spend out big time on a car, but not till i'm state side.
