I just bought a bottle of throttle body cleaner from can tire.

Now the instruction say spray the can into the TB with the intake pipe removed and WHILE the car is running. Wouldn't this trigger the engine light???

Full instruction is appreciated, thanks!

I have an old toothbrush that I use to clean the heavy gunk outta my TB. Basically, with the engine off, I take a flat head screwdriver, diconnect the intake pipe, jam the screwdriver into the throttle return (the thing that the spring is attached to) to hold it open, spray the crap outta the inside of the TB, let it sit for a minute then go to work with the toothbrush trying to loosen up any deposits. I spray, brush, spray, brush until the liquid running out of the TB is clear. This will likely take almsot the whole bottle. Then I remove the screwdriver and walk away for 5 minutes to let it all dry. I start the car and spray a bit more into the TB.

Dickson, I cleaned mine a few months ago. My bro said that a bunch of people on the Max board sprayed all the cleaner in the tb with the engine had their check engine light come on.

What I did was soak a heavy duty blue paper towel with the cleaner and wiped the tb instead. To reach the deeper areas, I soaked the bristles of the toothbrush and loosen the deposits...then I wiped it up as well. Make sure the butterfly is totally clean, especially the edges.

This way, the chances of your light coming on are minimal...even if it does, just remove the EFI fuse for a bit.

But if you wipe it, won't you just be able clean as much as you can reach?

You can still use the toothbrush to clean the hard to reach places, but just spray the bristles, not in the TB.

I cleaned the TB yesterday with the cleaner and I can't believe how much black stuff was coming out...!

I didn't clean the other side of the butterfly because I did it with the engine off...

Deep you gotta show me next time how you do it your way.

well i'll be damned if you can do that with the engine running. i dont think it will i know some like my 22r will not run with the intake hose off. the mass air flow would shut the engine off. i dont know about these soo hey so now you cant say you never told me this.
