I'm wanting to install a 4 banger in my '86 4X4 1/2 tone pickup that's at least 220 hp. i have found a site that lists all the Toyota engines ( http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P...neEngines.html ) and was thinking about the 1994 Celica or MR2 3S-GTE, 242bhp @6000 and 13psi turbo (mmm turbo)
But i have no clue how this kind of project would bolt up with the tranny 'n all that stuff.
i'm flexable but really want the turbo and not too much $.
the best engine i have now is the 22R-TE and its only like 140bhp @4800...it works great in the mud, but its not amazing it ya know what i mean, i'd like to beable to roast all 4 tires on the pavement!! and go off roading when its jacked with 35's or so...
any help with this would b exellent!!

Well you're on the right track with the turbo. Forced induction is the easiest way to get lots of HP. What you're planning requires quite a few parts, and a lot of work. Best to get some friends to help you install it once you have everything ready.
About bolting up, tranny, ecu, etc, I would recommend doing a lot of research. You want to know exactly what you have to do before you start the project. Good luck.

Its not how fast your car goes...its how much nerve the driver has to push it that fast.
what exactly are you trying to build here? The 3SGTE is not really a logical choice because it doesn't make much useable power and torque for a truck (power/torque before 3000rpms)... unless you're gonna slam it and build a street drag truck or something. If you plan on building a rock crawler/off-road beast, you should worry more about gearing and low rpm torque than horsepower...

watch trucks....that really annoying guy will tell u what to do....apparently (as kwanza said) it is about torque...but if u really want the hp....get a SUPRAAAAAAAAA!

5VZ-FE, 7M-GTE, or a v8 swap. Forget i4's on a truck...

Chevy 350 Engine, I've seen many old Toyo trucks with these and they are beasts. There was one was for sale on ebay a while ago. I'm sure you can find some info on this somewhere.
Good luck w/ whatever you decide to do.

I think someone else hit it too. The straight six with dual overhead cams would be sweet. Inline motor are know for better low end torque. I.E. the IS300 and GS300 use a straigt six and you can get it in manual. Thats the same motor in the old supras and I think Celicas. Cressidas came with them too. I don't know about the old versions, but the newer versions come with aluminum blocks and heads which would save a lot of weight.
For simplicity, stay away from turbos on an off road vehicle....more stuff to break. Also Toytoa birfield axles are only good up to 35" tires.......tops. And thats with the 4 banger. If you want to go with more HP, lower gears, or bigger tires, You'll have to upgrade to Dana 44's at least.
wow replies!! lol
yea i didn't really think about the low end torque!! And i was thinking about a 4cyl because of weight and bolting in. but i still want to beable to smoke all 4 tires on the pavement!! (its a dream eh) but i don't want to sink like a rock in the mud....
oh and by the way i allready havesome gears, it seems to me they are 5:27 er something like that.
About buyin another Yoda truck...i think 3 is enough for me fer now. thanks though!
Thanks for all the info!!!!! this site is tha shyit!
And i was thinking about a 4cyl because of weight and bolting in.
Toyota's iron block 4cyl weigh more than their Alu block v6's, and are not far off from any of their iron block v6's.
Don't worry about weight
