USA Walbro Fuel Pump, turbine pump?

Like always, I share any interesting information I might come across regarding RAV4. I'm asking the experts about the RAV4 fuel pump. This is what they had to say.

Question

I'm turbo my 1997 Toyota RAV4. It has the 3SFE engine, 5 Speed gear box. Which Walbro Fuel Pump will work. Is the 255 Universal, or does the RAV4 have a specific model?

Answer

almc2242,

This is quit odd, but up till about a week or two ago, I would have told you there was no easy way of updating that kit. That is because the RAV4 uses a turbine pump, and the only volume Walbro turbine pumps use to deliver was 21 gph... not enough for your project. This year Walbro has introduced, or rather will be introducing a series of higher volume turbine pumps. I called our supplier, and Walbro, the word seems to be those updated turbine pumps should be available by spring. Get back to us then, we'll be glad to put together a pump kit that will deliver the appropriate amount of fuel.
We apologize that we were not able to fill your requirement at this time and hope that you will give us another opportunity to do so in the future! We hope that the information we pass on is useful in your search. You can get back in touch with us at http://www.fuel-pumps.net or by calling us

Any remarks or opinion guys? If I am going to change my fuel pump, what I'm looking at here?

My fuel pump just died yesterday (5th Gen Celica) so I'm also looking to upgrade to a Walbro pump.

The replacement pump for the RAV4 is the TCA324. If you want to put
a performance pump in there, you'll have to modify your tank assembly
so the newer pumps will fit.

http://apeusa.com/?tca

Use the FPT101, FPT201, FPT102, or FPT103. If you don't have an
adjustable fuel pressure regulator, don't use anything more than
the FPT201 or it'll probably run too rich.

Question and Answer # 2

> In what consites this modification?

I've never seen the tank assembly of a RAV4, so I
can't be specific, but I'd be willing to bet it'll
look a lot like the one on this page:

http://apeusa.com/html/gvr4_3000gtnt.html

You'll probably have to cut a hard line so the pump
will fit. Then, use the hose and clamps to connect
the output of the pump to the hard line that runs out
of the tank

Any suggestions guys?

So, does this mean I would also have to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator if I wanted to buy a 255 lph pump? (I'm buying the 255 lph pump since I plan on installing a turbo when I finally get a job). If so, can anyone recommend a good adjustable FPR for my 5th Gen Celica?

Thanks and sorry for hijacking the thread.

Cool

How much are you going to build that engine first?
A 190lph pump will support a lot more hp than a 3s-fe could possibly withstand on it's own.
Seriously, unless you're rebuilding that engine to make some serious power, a 190lph pump will support a few hundred horsepower fine.

IMHO 255 is way overkill.

For how many HP is the 190 lph pump good for? I will be going turbo sooner or later in the year and I wouldn't like waste money into a pump that will not live up to the task when the turbo goes on. Please bare in mind that I 've got a 2nd gen 3S-GE so that would make it a 3S-GTE.

Cool

Obviously that depends on what the injectors are capabile of flowing, and the engine itself LoL!
Judging from various v6, v8, and a bunch of DSM information.
a 190lph walbro (not high pressure) should be good for atleast 350hp. Lots are running over 400.

I'm not talking you out of buying the 255. They only cost like $20 more, while only running slightly warmer, and slightly louder. I'm just trying to bring up the point that a 255 is probably overkill for most applications.
