i have a 99 ford escort. and i decided to max it out.. well once i hit 4500 rpm in 5th at 110 my car would not go any faster (redline 6500 rpm). I am guessen it is the governer (however it's spelled) do i have to get a racing chip to get rid of that. or is there another way please help it's pissen me off. Or could someone guess about how fast my car will go .. it is a4 cyl. 2.0L Zetec ford Zx2 escort

find out which wire has has the speed sensor on your ECU harness and remove it. but i do not know the effect of not having a speed sensor on an OBD1 or 2 car. i know that on honda units, vtec engagement will no longer be possible without the speed sensor.

well i was talking to a mech. today and he said you wqhere right just cut the speed sensor..but i asked about what i may do. like in hondas it fucks the Vetech..then he said that no honda has speed sensors..they have rpm thingy....and that getting mine cut would be easy..but he would have to talk to some ford people before he new exactly what to cut... and he is going to hook me up with this other thing that give me another 5 hp for 10 bucks..i think good deal

that's kool. but be aware that any ecu modification will not give u 5-10hp. the most it'd give is 2hp at the wheels. i've seen dynos on this so i know.
and as for honda, it has a speed sensor for vtec engagement. because if u rev a vtec motor in neutral to redline, u'd notice that vtec would not engage. it only kicks in when ur car is moving.

i just want to push my 5th gear to 6.5 (where the redline starts) and see how fast i am going.. i don't want to go anyfuther cuz of the engine blowin..and the 5 horse power is from a new tenp. thingy i am not sure what it is..but the guy had one put on his car and said he could feel the difference.

sometimes hp is a mind thing.. and the way u're saying u're not tryin to remove the governor u're uppin the rev limiter.. that's a totally different thing.. btw that dont do too much for ur top speed... jsut so u know...from 5k rpm to 6.5krpm only a few kph/mph only...

BLA... the 5 hp is from somthing that has nothing to do with the governer.. but i want to get ride of the governer anyway. not a rev limiter..it's a speed limiter. i was talking to a mech. that has dont this to his computer

just rip out the speed sensor wire on the main ecu harness!
i did that on mine but i have a constant CEL tho. flashes code 16(speed sensor circut) haha

NO in 5th GEAR from 4.5k rpm to 6.5k rpm that should be aleast 20 mph right?
