Heatshield?

What heatshield do you guys suggest for the floorboard for a side-exit exhaust?
What I'm currently looking at is this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=DEI-050502

Wondering if there's anything else that may be better suited. I don't want to melt the floorboards or screw up the carpeting or anything.

Thanks.

Also, do you guys know of any good places to get prebent mandrel pieces?
Summit has 2 pieces that I can use but they're different gauges, same with JCW.
Thanks.

I think I've figured out my prebent mandrel issue. I found http://www.automotorsports.com which seems to have what I need.

Now I just need to figure out how I want to run the exhaust... I'm in the process of protracting out a cardboard 'dummy' exhaust to see how things will be run. I think I've found a solution with the least amount of bends.

Hopefull it'll all work out. I need to wait for a dry day where I can jack up the car and get a good view of everything underneath and come up with an exact view of what I need. My only issue is a brakeline that's right over where I need to go. I'm sure I could buy a little heatshield for it and all would be well.

If things work out properly, I may not even need to do that. I need to get some good measurements though.

I'm still curious on the heatshield thing. Some say radiant heat (which I'm assuming won't be sufficient for my needs) and some say for direct heat (assumption says this is the ticket).

However, I'm still uncertain of which would be the best suited for my application.

Little update, I have the exhaust situation solved. I'll be running resonator flanged (read: no piping from res) to cat, and on the other end I'll have maybe an inch (or maybe nothing) then the muffler, then a cutdown leg of the 90 (12" legs) with the 12" leg going directly to the 9" turndown (Borla) which will give me a total of about 21" which should be perfect for the turndown to be seated at and give me just enough room for the resonator and muffler. no wasted space, weight savings will be considerable.

I'm ordering later tonight, if there's no responses by then, I'm just going with the one posted above.

If you still want a heat shield, you can ordera pipe that is 1/2" or so larger than the exhaust you are using and weld that with little spacers over the top of the exhaust...

I have side exit exhaust on my Camry (to save the ugly piping over the suspension on the gen2). It just follows the stock piping all the way back to where it would turn over the suspension. In the later cars, its harder - keep it away from the gas tank. There are also options for keeping anything small (like brake lines) shielded - check out stuff that's meant for parts in engine bays. Its like metal with a fiberglass backing.

yeah, white, that's what I planned, maybe a spark plug boot protector or something, or if it came down to it, I could clamp the line, cut it, extend it with some fittings and just shift where it is a bit. Not a biggie on that.

Thanks for the thought on the exhaust. I'm thinking I may use the above heatshield and I should be pretty good with that.

Thanks, 88. I ordered the http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=KeywordSearch

for the brake line. It says it can handle 750 degree constant temperatures. I figure since it's not even a direct path from the exhaust, it shouldn't be so bad. 750 degrees seems sufficient.

I also ordered the 1750 degree heatshield for the floorboards so it doesn't leak through and melt my carpet glue or anything.

I think that should be sufficient heat shielding for the bottom of the car. I got a quote from meineke (ghetto, huh?) for welding the exhaust up. They said about $100 without looking at it.

If it's just $100, I'll be glad, although that's pure labor with maybe a flange or two added. I'm buying my mandrel bent 90 degree turn, my heat shielding, my mufflers and everything aside from the flanges and hangers needed.

I just made my 3rd order for exhaust pieces including a 90 degree 2.25" mandrel bent piece (leg A) 14", leg B) 5"), the 2 heat shields and a 9" Borla turndown, since for some reason my purple hornie didn't include one (disappointing, but not much of an issue).

Now all I'll need is to have it welded up and then paint it black.

I think I'll take it to the local dyno shop I found afterward and get it tuned just for a mild tune so I can get the a/f down and see what I'm putting down right now (I'm very curious with how the A140E transfers power).

Thanks, 88 and White.
