1ZZFE Question (Basic)

OK, basic question here. I am pretty new to Toyota's, so bear with me.

The Matrix XR comes with a 1ZZFE putting out 130HP at the crank (per Toyota).

The Celica GT comes with a 1ZZFE putting out 140HP at the crank (per Toyota).

What is the difference between the two? They are the same block correct? Where is this extra 10 HP coming from? Compression? Head?

If the engines are in fact different (aka I am a complete idiot), then just let me know!

I believe its a different intake manifold and exhaust sysem, the compression is 10:1 on both motors

ok

So...if its intake and exhaust..then the lower HP 130 version should respond VERY well to aftermarket parts, right? I mean if Toyota can make an intake/exhaust OEM that adds 10HP and still meets regulations and is real quiet. Then an aftermarket company can sacrafice sound (we like our CAI sounds) and still make regulations (CARB) and get good HP gains.

For example: if we have a Celica GT starting at 140hp, add injen intake +10hp (example, not true), header&exhaust (15hp) for a total of 165hp (again, example...). If we have a 130hp version with the same mods...it should react better and end up close to 165 right?

Am I making sense?

Just a thought, 10HP difference seems like a lot for two identical block OEM engines. I am obviously interested because my Matrix has the lower HP version.

NO no not the intake itself, the intake manifold I believe is different, like the corollas have that metalish one, we have plastic with metal underneath, if you live in toronto I'll swing by one day and we can check the differences

ahh

So its the intake manifold. Hmm....10hp from a manifold. Sounds like a mod to me. Wonder how much the manifold is.

Sadly, I am nowhere near Toronto...I live in Kansas City, USA. Thanks though.
