Question R22 timing

I own a 1992 yota pick up, my question is, do the 22r engines that they come with have a history of timing problems? And I need to get in there but dont know how?

Yes, the 22r and the 22re have timing chain problems. they are a single chain system unlike the 20R with its dual chain system and steel guides. i've just converted my single to the dual timing chain setup.

I understand that all you need is the two row parts and a two row pump drive.
Was it that easy? I just did my single row with stock parts except DOA guides.
I think I should have gone with thre two row. no stretchee

If your stock guides fail the chain will eat through the chain cover and into a water passage. Oil in the water.

Listen closely for any chain sounds.
You can check the chain through the top when you adjust the valves.
