ENGINE NOISE ON 5SFE

I have a rattling noise in the engine of my 2000 Camry with 5SFE engine. Sounds like a bad lifter, but mechanic said it is a piston slap. Only does it on acceleration.

Does anyone have some thoughts of what the problem might be?

Thanks!

When does the sound occur? Acceleration, deceleration, idling, under heavy load... ???

Can diagnose a problem without knowing when it happens! =)

Its quite possible thats its piston slap. Highly unlikly that it could be rod knock...

These engines have forged pistons? You get piston slap (for the most part) while the forged pistons are coming up to operating temperature. Until they do, they are slightly small and therefore "slap".

I have an annoying tapping that happens under all conditions. I do have forged pistons and when the engine is cold it is louder...and a little different.

It is driving me crazy! It almost sounds like I'm really low on oil...no, I already checked that!
