Celica GT All-Trac

I'm thinking of buying a Celica All-Trac from some guy. The problem is that I am not sure how to check if the turbo is alright or not. What should I do to prevent myself from getting ripped off? Thanx...

I would get a certified mecanic to check out the car.But another good ide is to run the car and to see if the exhaust gas has any color to it or if the engine idles weird. If the turbo is dead you will get the whine of death or you will have one slugish engine.Anyways if you need any help just ask me.

make sure the engine is NOT hot with the engine off. take the plastic peice off the turbo intake side. use your hands to physically check the turbo compressor, visually look at it to see that there are no damaged fins etc. when you physically check it, move the compressor in and out and back and forth. there should be minimal movement (1mm-2mm sideways, 0mm in and out) that'll tell you if its good or not.
