Who Knows Mustangs? Engine Swap

Forum correction requested:

Please don't answer if you only have an idea of how this works, or if you just know standard engine swap trivia.

A buddy of mine has a 98 Mustang V6 with a cracked block. Homeboy wants to buy a 98 GT, but I know he can save mad loot if he just swaps. Then he said he wanted the V8. Now I've heard that for Fords, all the wiring and piping hookups are the same across model lines (ie, a mustang V6 will hook right up to a Focus, for example). If that's the case, what would need to be changed to swap a V8 from a 98 GT into a 98 V6, aside from Block/Tranny? Electronics, reservoirs, emissions parts, everything necessary, please post it here, IF YOU ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THIS SWAP.

thank you kindly...as a gift, i've posted mad porn in the supreme forum, get supreme, take a look and thank me.

Don't look at the porn! *WARNING*

Engines are an easy swap in Fords. The V8 will drop right in. Swap the ECU and the GT dual exhaust and your pretty much set. Most stuff hooks up the exact same. I would do a front clip swap. Get everything out of the GT and put it in. Not just the engine itself. I would swap trannys just because the V6 tranny is weaker.

I agree with smokingtiresv6. Definetely get the tranny. My wife had a 96 Mustang GT with an Auto and it had problems. There is a big difference between the V6 and V6 tranny.

no not just plug and play. different computers, and different wiring. if he is going to do that, he should buy a donor car and use the donors wiring, computer, motormounts, engine mounts/crossmember, trans, rear, and radiator. the rear will work but not long. the increased torque will kill the spider gears. the trans wont hold the power for long either plus it is a slightly different bellhousing bolt pattern. it is not exactly a simple swap. by the way my credentials include owning a few mustangs as well as building up alot of my friends stangs. anything you want to know about a mustang i can help you out with.

since you have to replace the entire drivetrain and EEC system, just slip in a 4v 4.6 out of a mark 8 or cobra?

i've done a swap recently on a 99 explorer we switched it to carbureted instead though cause of the deal we got on a sc.

if he want's to keep it fi there will be alot of work involved but if he switches it to carb it can be a weekend job. ford v8's sell relitively cheap at part stores as low as 700 with a 2 yr warranty. as for the tranny is it a 3spd auto or does it have o/d?

yeah, get away from Fords (just kidding). But I sold my '02 Explorer Sport 2dr to get into a 05 Corolla S. (sure I know I will here some jeering, "Why didn't you get the XRS?" Money, foo!) but Toyota is such a nicer vehicle to drive. (hickup)
