1991 corolla wont start need advice

My friends dad has a 1991 corolla that he wants to sell me, there isnt' really anything wrong with it, just alot of body rot... Anywho the engien turns over just fine but its not getting any fuel so it wont start. Can any one help me? Im thinking its the fuel pump but im not shure, could be the filter to. The car hasn't been started in almost a year so im thinking the pump is just froze. Im a basic machanic but im used to american cars, never worked on a Toyota before. dose any one know how to unfreeze it (if thats the case) with out dropping the tank. any kind of fluid or anitsees I can put in the tank to help un fuck it?

First off crack the line loose at the fuel rail(near intake manifold) and bump the key over to see if it sprays fuel. If yes then retighten the line and get a means of testing the fuel pressure. If no snatch up the rear seat and open the access plate, check wires to see if they have power with key on.....

re: fuel system problem

i agree that the first thing to determine is whether th pump is operating - but i would not recommend opening the fuel rail. first you have a tendency to leak afterwards if you don't replace the copper gaskets ANY time you disturb them - and second, if you have any stray spark, like a bad plug wire, you risk igniting the fuel and burning yer $100 investment to the ground before you get it on the road. if you must check for fuel flow, do it at the inlet to the fuel filter under the car - run a hose from the line into a coffee can or something so you don't melt the asphault with the gas. but i would - (1) try having a friend listen at the filler neck while you turn the key to "on". you should hear a buzz for 2-3 seconds from the tank. (2) check for power as mentioned above - but you have to have the test light hooked up to the power wire when you turn the key on - it only has power for a few seconds unless the computer sees a signal from the ignition system. there should be 2 sets of wires under the access panel - one set for the gauge and one (heavier gage)set for the pump. i believe that the "hot" lead is blue, but i know the ground wire is black, so it's the other one. if yer lucky you can even replace the pump through the access panel - some of them are built that way. also - do a little checking around - i just got done replacing a pump on a geo and the prices ranged from $225 to $68 depending on where i checked.
