Ya I'd rather have an SMT. Even an early smt-5. The new smt-7's are just... Holy crap. Wish I could sell my smt-6 and upgrade to one.
I think it's simply a package deal (and a different color). Like the gold ones come with the ignition change hardware, possibly the extra injector drive features (maybe, maybe not. I don't think so).
