1986 Tercel Air Conditioner problem

Hello, Maybe someone can help with this problem, My AC seems to work most of the time. Sometimes at low speeds it quits working and puts out hot, humid air that fogs the windshield. It has been converted to 134. It brings the air down to around 60 degrees, when working, on a 90 degree day. When engine is shut down it has an odd hissing sound coming from either under the dash or the firewall area. It sounds like it is bleeding air through a valve. Thank you for any ideas or help! 1986 Tercel Wagon.

Roger

the hissing is simply the lo and hi side equalizing when the compressor shuts off, when the air is on, raise the hood and see if the radiator fan is running, if its not kill the air and lets go from there

Thank you, For the first time I noticed the after the car had ran a minute or two with the air on the fan didn't just start on its own, I had to give it a little push.

I have it back together and its working. i will drive it for a couple of days and come back here and let you know how it has worked out. i'm not sure that is the only problem with the air. I really appreciate your assistance, I was at a standstill. sometimes another idea is all it takes. Thank you very much. I will repost Sunday or Monday.......Roger
