NEWBIE Q#3: wet sanding body

to you body ppl, what grit sandpaper do you guys use when wet-sanding body? i dont want to scratch any paint off....just want to "clean" (or revive) the original paint

the car is white so you see black/grey shades of dirt residue stuck on it, want to get body nice and smooth again

THANK YOU :o

2000 grit, it's as fine as paper.. The best way to do it is to get a bucket of water and a sponge, hold the sponge on top of wherever you're sanding and keep sqeezing the sponge and soaking it, don't press on the sand paper..

Don't freak out when you lose the shine It's normal, use the Maguier's Polish and then wax. Your paint will come out looking brand new...

Good luck..

theres different stages. and for each stage you use a different grit.

your not gonna get anything off by starting off with a 2000grit...you'll be lucky to break the clear coat.

start with a wet 320 grit and remove the ugly areas. sand lightly.

then move up to a wet 360 and sand lightly....you don't want to gouge the metal.

clean it with some silicon/wax remover (you can get it at body shops but its its pricy) Kleanol i think its called

prime it. then wet sand with a 600 grit till its smooth and even. rub your fingers over it.

let dry, spray with colour. wet sand with either a 600 or 1000 grit. you don't want to pull off the paint, you just want to keep it smooth. spray another coat and sand again. do this a total of three times bnut on the last, don't sand. then clear coat it. if you need to take off any imperfections, use a 2000 grit for that.
