Installing an MSD BTM

Has anyone ever installed an MSD Boost Timing Master unit? The one I have is the 5462...not the ignition system, just a timing retard module.

I have a 96 Camry 5S-FE with a turbo.

The car almost starts with it installed and then immediately dies. Obviously the MSD box doesn't like something. I am getting a spark (as seen with a timing light clamped on the ignition wire). It must be at the wrong time. So obviously the trigger is working.

Any ideas????? Help!!!!

Thanks
Steve

 The answer...

I got it working. You have to install another MSD part; the 8910-EIS. This converts the trigger signal into something usable by the MSD 5462.

If you do this, be sure you get the 8910-EIS...if you try to use the 8910, it may not work. It must have the EIS suffix.

Actually I think this module (the 8910-EIS) will allow any aftermarket ignition system to work with the Toyota ignition system.

It takes the trigger signal from the Toyota igniter, which is not strong enough to trigger an MSD 6-BTM, for example, and makes it a more significant pulse. I bet this stronger pulse will trigger any system.
