Question Opinions on T28 for 5sgte?

i am in the process of sourcing parts for a 5s-gte project (5s block, 3s head) and i just found a GREAT DEAL on a turbo kit for the gen3 3sge (which is the head im using) consisting of a T28 turbo.. i dont know much about this size, HP outcome, or how it would compare to a CT20b or T3/T4 - but i plan on boosting about 12psi daily (maybe an on-board switch to boost UP TO 17psi via Haltech's e6x [dual maps]). I'm staying FAIRLY stock except for the custom pistons needed for the stroker (and low comp. for turbo), standalone ECU, and other supporting mods such as injectors & fuel pump, exhaust.. any suggestions, opinions, info, etc?? i think im shooting for the 300hp range - maybe 350 if i get lucky, but just a basic set-up for now, and im wondering if this would be a good buy for my project? thanks guys...

t28 might be a tad bit too small for a daily runner running 12psi. might be better to look for a T3, T3/T4, TD05 or a CT26.

Cool

A t28 is far too small.
You'll have great low down performance with the FE head /cams, and the T25 turbine housing that is used. Unfortunately it'll choke quickly, probably a little more than half way through the rpm range and fall off drastically.

I assume you can't afford an expencive turbo...

A t3 / t4 hybrid using a t04e trim 46 compressor would work devinely. Probably would be spooling useable boost in the 3000rpm range, and large enough to pullthroguh the upper rpm range.

No. I'm telling you guys.... T28's are too small for stock Honda engine's. They choke on Honda's.

It'll be a death grip on a Toyota i4.:\

Um no ... T28 isnt as bad as people think... If you do get a big a/r on the turbine side... If your hurting for money theres some nice Garretts that can be had for far less than you think...

heres a couple :
GT32

T3 60 trim

T3/T4E

Now before you guys think a T3 is too small theres alot of Tacoma guys with 2.4liters running a T28/T3 Hybrid turbos...

This is true but you have to remember its a Honda engine those engines are built N/A and have a big cam profile... a T28 should be find, if you get the right a/r to go with it on a Toyota ...

t3 is a good size by itself. The buick's used modified t3's. And that's a big engine.
AFAIK, a T28 is a t25 turbine and some t3 sized compressor.

They're great on stock low end honda's because they have very, very fast responce (on the small engine) and power drops off quickly. That sounds like a negative, but it is a positive for them. With the "weaker" (and I use that loosely) engine's, they can't handle a good sized turbo that will give power through the high rpm band. It needs to drop off or you'll see rod material in the oil pan!

The Toyota's have a lot more low down grunt to get a turbo spooled, you might as well go for a bigger t3(or equiv) that will have a better top end performance, without sacrificing low end responce much at all.

Or you could do like Wraith said, and get a t28 with a big A/R on it. I didn't know they used a big T28 on the skyline.

so being that its basically a T25/T3 - i guess i could upgrade the T3 side to a larger super60 or something, right?? Wouldn't it be a T25 bolt pattern on the manifold then?? so i couldn't use a t3/t4.. ? i'd be buying the kit CHEAP so im trying to make sure i HAVE to rule it out completely before i pass this up - Blitz manifold, XSPower T28 (0miles), wastegate, and 1/2 of a downpipe including hoses, lines and fittings... $375 shipped!! what kind of upgrade could i do to the T28 then??

The t25 turbine side (t28) does not not use the t3 bolt pattern.

Yes you could upgrade the T28 side to any T3 wheel. My point is that you would be better off buying that sized t3 to begin with.
