High RPM question

Hey i have a dum question here but just wanted to know if you race your engine to the max RPM's like once a day, will there be any chances of spinning a bearing even after the engine is warmed up and oiled well? I dont race my engine all the time but just whant to know.

Probably not. I don't think I have ever done that to an unloaded engine. If it is a stock engine, you will get Valve bounce and missing. If however it is a tuned engine, your rods are the weak link. I might be a little concerned about the piston rings and cylinder walls. Of course it depends how long you hold it at max. Still, I don't think it is a good practice. It does nothing good.

its good to rev it up so carbon doesnt build up on teh internals. There's a redline for a reason, stuff starts to break when you rev above it.

I rev mine to redline at least every time i take it out and it's warmed up.

Revving to redline is fine, under load. Free revving however can be very bad. If your sitting there in nutral even with the car warmed up and good clean oil, revving quickly to redline CAN damage your engine in some cases. The oil pump on a stock motor is a mechanical pump driven by the timing belt, chain, or even a cam. It is possible on some motors to rev the engine faster than the oil pump can build pressure to accomidate the perticular RPM. When this happens the rod berrings dont get enough pressure/flow. I have seen several hondas come into the shop with destroyed bottom ends because of kids free revving the motors. Redline is perectly safe under load or if its approached gradually.
