OK, I've got my blue eManage (running the Gold update) installed in my 5S-FTE and everything is workign nicely. So it's time to start tuning with the eManage. The main problem I am tryin to fix is the rich AFR at around 4000 RPM (like 9:1).
When I began to look into the eManage, I realized it would be good to install the ignition harness an the injector harness...just in case.
My stock ECU is a 1996.
First some observations:
1. With the eManage support tool, I can change the air flow signal and change how the engine is running. So that's working as expected.
2. I also have the ability to change the timing. I tried playing with it at idle and going from -20 to +20 deg. Made no difference at all. I am wondering if this is working.
3. Again while idling, I tried adding a bunch of fuel. The engine choked for a little and then the stock ECU kicked in and trimmed it back using the short term fuel trim.
So my questions:
1. Does anyone know anything about what the acceleration map does and how to tune it?
2. If I change the injector pulse, won't the stock ECU begin to override it using the fuel trim? Does this come into play at WOT? In other words, during WOT, what is the stock ECU going to do for fuel delivery? Is it a preset map, or based on feedback from the stock O2 sensor?
3. Shouldn't I see some difference in idle when I changed the timing all the way from -20 to +20 degrees?
There is a guy that has a setup that includes a pressure switch and a voltage clamp for the O2 signal so that the eManage & ECU will maintain a particular AFR. Once I add that, I can adjust the AFR under boost reliably. I am just trying to understand the eManage a bit better.
So far every Camry or MR2 owner that says they have an emanage has either not tuned it yet or their setup blew up and they aren't running it anymore. I really want to get some feedback from those that are using the eManage.

1. I haven't tried the Gold upgrade so I haven't seen the "acceleration map" before. What is the map based on, TPS vs RPM, or boost vs RPM or something else?
2. Once your throttle percentage exceeds roughly 80%, the ECU will run its preset fuel and ignition tables. The O2 sensor will not interfere with your fuel changes during open loop.
3. It's hard to feel the difference of timing at idle especially when the O2 sensor is also continuously trimming the fuel. Best would be to use a timing gun to verify. I would do this before anything else just to make sure that the ignition harness is in fact working properly. You can also try to rev the engine to about 3000RPM and retard the timing -20 deg. If the engine fails to rev smoothly, then it is probably working.
I believe the E-manage O2 sensor clamp will not work for the Camry. It basically supplies a constant voltage, but the stock ECU will still know something is wrong. It looks for a voltage swing (lean-rich swing) and from what I know, the E-manage O2 circuit doesn't do the job correctly. I can't be 100% positive for the 4cyl engines, but my 1MZ still triggered a CEL.

Here's a screen shot of the acceleration map:

OK, that's what I thought. So the eManage will do fine with changing the fuel delivery for WOT.

I was going to do the timing light. Just curious if there was something else I didn't know about that was getting in my way here.

When the stock NB O2 sensor goes too lean or rich, it's just about a constant voltage anyway. You can see this with a scan tool and accelerating or decelerating. The guy that makes this unit (Bruce Buchner) has got great reviews from others.
His unit only comes into play when you're under boost. It also uses either a WB or a NB signal.
The acceleration map is used for adding fuel for sudden throttle changes. If you notice your A/F going lean for a split second when you mash the throttle, this would be the map you would need to tune.
You can give the O2 voltage clamp a try. You will probably luck out with your engine being the 4cyl and not the 1MZ. When the engine is at higher revs, the O2 sensor sampling rate increases as well. Which is to why my 1MZ still triggered a CEL because it saw a constant voltage at a moment which it should have received many voltage swings.

I thought the O2 sensor voltage needed to be providing a flat line for a while before the CEL would get lit. Sounds like maybe it's quicker than I thought. And like you've mentioned, this is 1mz vs. 5sfe.
As far as the accel map, is the vertical axis (the 5 - 40 range) the amount of change in the TPS within a cetain amount of time? That makes sense to me...I just didn't see it before.
And do you know what the Gain: 0.5 is? It has a range of 0.5 to 20.0. It doesn't change anything in the table or the scales. Does it relate to the increase in throttle?
Yup, it measures the amount of throttle change for a certain amount of time. Gain seems to be the sensitivity setting. I believe gain 0.5 means it has to go beyond 0.5 before fuel will be added. You can probably use the ghost trace mode and see which cell it lands on whenever you snap open the throttle. Most acceleration enrichment maps (on most EMS') comes with a sensitivity setting mainly to avoid having fuel being added whenever there is a slight throttle change. This acts as a buffer probably so the acceleration circuit wouldn't activate continuously.
The Gold upgrade seems to be pretty good. I am still running the old E-manage firmware on my 1.6EL, so maybe I should switch over and get familiar with the new features

Really wasn't hard to upgrade it. It was a firmware change and a newer version of the suport tool. Everything is on mohdparts.com.
There are so many people in other threads that rreally bad-mouthed the emanage. So far it seems like a nice little device. Once I get to tuning we'll see, but I have high expectations.
