Engine Code, 7 Blinks, Throttle Sensor

My 1987 4Runner is only firing on cylinders 2 and 4. I shorted the ciruit to read the computer and it blinked the check engine light 7 times, referring to the throttle sensor. My question is: even if the sensor is bad, how can it conrtol that only 2 cylinders fire? My understanding is that the sensor controls all throttle not individual cylinders. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Though it may have blinked 7 times, it usually spits out a 2-digit code. It would blink for "x" number of times, then pause, then blink "y" number of times. XY is the code

Fixed Problem only 2 cylinders firing

On my 1987 4Runner, I had the issue of only two cylinders firing. After exhaustive search through out the engine I fixed the issue by completely unwrapping the wiring harness in the engine compartment and finding that from the resistor to the injectors, one wire had eroded, right where it split into two wires and went to the 1 and 3 cylinders. If anyone else has this issue, I hope this will give them some places to look. Thank you to everyone who helped and replied to my posts. I will continue to check this site and offer any help I can.

Thats incredibly strange, its not as if theres any serious voltage/current going through there. Was the harness rubbing against the exhaust manifold or somthing?

wiring harness

No the harness is actually on the other side near the intake. When I unwrapped the harness there was a lot of moisture inside the harness and I believe that the water helped erode the wiring splice.
