oil question

ye old Synthetic vs. Regular oil question:

Drive 2001 Honda Civic. Run high revs pretty frequently. Car has under 40000km on it. Good idea to switch to Synth? better for the car, or waste of money? or just change oil more frequently?

This has been discussed a lot, IMO switch before the car gets too old. Synthetic oil cleans your engine, and if you have an older engine, and you dump in synthetic, you could be cleaning out sludge that is keeping seals from leaking.

Up to you, both do the job they were meant to do. However, synthetics would have a longer interval for change than regular oils due to their compounds, but if you change at like 3000km, then regular oil would do perfectly aswell. On an other note, swapping to synthetic might make your engine leak oil due to its better cleaning effect, the grime that has stuck into holes preventing leaks might dilute away and cause the gaskets to start leaking. So dont be alarmed if you have to change some gaskets.

Wow, two of the same answers are better than one I suppose.

what counts as too old? and is this(revving high) a good reason to switch to synth on a cheap economy car engine?

First check if you need 5w20 oil. If so go with Amsoil XL-7500 5w20.

(it's only about 25,000 miles, he's safe)
