The crossover settings can also be made in the amplifiers crossover if it has bandpass, but usually amplifier crossovers aren't the best way to go.
You can use an external eletronic crossover to seperate the frequencies before they are amplified.
I prefer to have it done via the headunit or external processor.
But I don't suggest novices jump right into wiring active. Instead buy a decent component set that has passive crossovers, a headunit with 3 way crossovers and a 4 channel amp for them. For now bridge the amp and run it passive(opposite of active) and have the headunit in regular mode.
This way you will have all the needed equipment for when you are ready to try out wiring active.
