If you don't have a detailing brush you should really get one. They are great for removing dust from around the radio and A/C knobs, A/C vents, shifter, and center console. You can also use a soft shorter bristle brush for gettin wax out of the exterior crevices of your vehicle, like around the emblems, letters, and trim.

This is a dual purpose brush that I like to use. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/meg-x-1120.html

Q-tips have their place; When you need to apply some pressure to really wipe something up, but Q-tips can't get into fine areas and recesses like a brush. And brushing is a lot faster. Plus after you're done with the brush you don't have to throw it away.
