What to cover while cleaning engine compartment?

either tonight or tomorrow I will be cleaning my engine comaprtment. I have simple green, a power washer and a rag (of course) Ive heard I should cover the alternator and battery with a plastic bag, but is there anything else? I dont want to destroy the engine!

Might wanna cover the fuse box and any ignition coils or stuff like that. Take it easy near the headlights. You don't want to force water inside the headlamps. I'd get some engine cleaner and let it do the majority of the work. Don't get too crazy with the water pressure.

About where would the fusebox and ignition coils be on the car? I would guess the user manual doesnt have it

I don't know, I've never owned a Camry. I just assumed it had a fuse box and some ignition stuff under the hood.

pull the battery and keep the pressure reasonable. hoses can be gouged by too much pressure.

i just use carb or brake cleaner all over. eats through grease like a hot knife through butter. and keep a spray bottle of just water to spritz more chemically sensetive plastic parts. BUT that doesnt work so well on dirt dirt. just oily/greasy dirt.

if youve got the simple green in a spray bottle, dont worry about covering anything. you wont be putting enough in the engine bay to gather and kill parts. get a can of spray electical parts cleaner to spray into the alternator and other electrical parts. itll displace water and evaporates fast. trick works well on oil-soaked alternators acting up too
