Mold/Mildew Help Needed!

Okay, so last year, my dumb dad left my grandpa's corolla's windows open a little through a rainstorm, then he closed them and forgot about them. So the car sat for a few weeks and then he opened it up and low and behold: there was mold on the carpeting. We tried spraying some tilex mildew remover on it, but no luck. The mold colony hasn't really changed size in the past few months, but it is really unsightly to have these black spots on the carpeting, especially when you want to sell the car.

So what should I do? Also, should I be concerned about mold growing underneath the seats and carpeting? And another thing, could anyone tell me if the mold is really toxic or anything if I posted pics?

I'd pull the seats out so you can get to all the carpet. Then vacuum the hell out of it. Then brush in a large amount of baking soda and leave for three or four days, then vacuum thoroughly again. Alternatively, you can steam clean it and dry them rapidly with towels and fans. Do not soak the carpet! Wet carpet will just breed more mold. You can rent a steam cleaner or have an upholstry cleaner place clean it. Don't try any strong mildew removers; they might bleach or fade the color in the carpet.

It might also be a good idea to take off the door sills and then lift the carpet up to let it dry out underneath.

Yes, breathing in mold can make you sick.
