Klasse AIO and SG...PB?

Hi everyone,
I am going to have a black sand pearl tacoma and am in need of some application tips concerning the Klasse AIO and SG products.

I am picking my new truck up in a couple of daysand plan to detail and protect the brand new paint right away.

After previously having a brand new black truck for just two years that I totally neglected to keep polished and waxed(due to the fact that my knowledge of waxes and polishes were limited to believing that they were the same thing), I know first hand how swirl marks can get out of hand. My truck looked great when the intense sun in hawaii was overhead, but when the the sun hit it from the side, holy mother of god, it was a totally different truck!!! Hundred if not thousand of hairline scratches blanketed my truck.

That's when I understood that taking care of autos w/ black paint is no joke. It needs some tlc to look good or you're probably better off buying a lighter color car.

Anyway, back to the situation at hand.
I have read some of the other threads concerning paint care and I've come up with these general steps which I plan to follow....

1. Clay to remove any imperfections and previous layers of wax/sealant
2. Klasse AOI (lasts up to 6 months)
3. Wait 24 hours
4. Klasse SG(if applying more than one coat, wait 24 hours between apps)
5. Wait 24 hours
6. Carnuba wax (to add a deeper shine on black/red cars that are lacking with synthetic waxes/sealants)
7. Frequent washes with Meguiar's GC
8. Quick detailing spray (in between washes to keep up wax protection esp. on hoods and roof tops)
9. Enjoy the shine
10. After the "six month" period, start over.

This is all through my initial web research so far (mucho de TN) and not from actual personal experience.

I'll post some pics when I get my truck...can't wait

^^^Be sure to post pics. Your steps were the exact same steps I used on my Silver Taco, and I couldn't see any hairline scratches at all. Good luck.

You could always substitute the AIO with some P21s Paintwork Cleaner which would keep ya from having to wait for 24 hours till you could apply the Klasse SG.

Wash first before you do that first clay.

Carnuba wax only lasts about 4-6 weeks, but in Hawaii, with the intense heat and sun, it may last even shorter. Because the wax doesn't last that long, you might want to re-apply wax every 4-5 weeks or so after washes with Gold Class.

What the best way of applying the P21S Paintwork Cleaner?and also the AIO for others that might want to try it? I'm thinking you have to do some light rubbing w/ the polish, so i don't think a foam apllicator would be used here.

And are there different types of foam applicators for applying the wax and KlasseSG? Could someone post a pic of the type of foam applicator I should use for the SG? or better yet have a video url of it being done.

Sorry, I'm so new to all this polishing and paint maintenance.

Thats the same process I used, with three coats of SG before the P21S wax. I live in South Fla so we have pretty intense sun too. I have been putting wax on every 3-4 weeks. Not because its lost its effectiveness but because its so easy to apply and my red truck looks great all shined up. Its very easy wax to use!

Wow, the polishing pads are almost $10 each...why are they so expensive? Can these types of pads be bought at Napa or Autozone for cheaper? Please say yes!!! a polishing pad is a polishing pad isn't it...the P21S does most of the work, right?

Elwinna,
you have the cleanest and most glossy looking red prerunners I've seen. Have you tried using the P21S Paintwork Cleaner. From what I've read, it does the polishing and cleaning of the AIO (better, I dunno, but Mike 5150 thinks it's worthy a try) and leaves out the acrylic coat. You can then, w/o waiting 24 hours, apply the SG which puts on a real coat of that acrylic coating that protects the paint and gives it the extra glossy shine. or

That's what I used for both Klasse AIO and Klasse SG application, for the wax, I used the applicator that came with the P21S product.

Klasse application guide: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/klass...wax-guide.html

I applied AIO fairlly lightly, all in one back and forth motion, either up and down or left to right, keep consistent. After I applied it to about half the car, I buffed the half off and repeat with other half. If you keep your paint is quite old and oxidized, you can put on another layer of AIO.

For SG, it's quite hard to remove if you apply it heavy. You have to apply it extremely light, to the point where you can't even see it while applying. Do sections at a time, then buff it off, it takes quite the effort to buff this off.

Yeah the pads were a little pricey but then again it's not like I'm gonna have to replace them after this year. They should last me quite awhile plus they can also be used on a Porter Cable buffer. I like the big size and the holder keeps your hand from getting tired quickly so imo they were worth the money. I'm sure you can probably find something similar for a cheaper price at your local store.

This is all exactly what i needed since i haven't actually bought or tried any of the Klasse, etc, products yet, just been doing online research.

Have any of you tried Beauty Shine #502 to go on top of the SG? It's 100% pink Brazilian carnauba and it costs ~$14!!!

I wouldn't substitute the Paint cleanser for the AIO. YOu could use the paint cleanser after claying, then AIO, then SG. But you need to apply the AIO for protection in that hot Hawaii sun. AIO has a little polish in it, but is mainly a synthetic sealant. Use it. The paint cleanser provides no protection for your paint. It just cleans it, like a mild polish.

Then to answer your other question: No, not all pads are the same. There are lots of different kinds. Read through the Detailing sticky. Use stiffer pads for polishing, and softer pads for waxing or buffing off a product with a bonnet. Good pads can make or break your detailing job. Don't skimp on the pads. I use Sonus or Lake Country pads.

Porter Cable 7336

Are there any downsides to using the PC 7336 over the 7424?
