Which wax?

I recently had my car painted and I want to know what would be the best wax to use on a 4 month old paint job?

What color is the paint?

What kind of environmental conditions is it subject to?

How much effort do you want to go through?

How's the finish now?

What did you do/use before and what did/didn't you like about it?

Do you care to order the wax online, or do you just want to get it off the store shelf? There are lots more products available online.

Do you want a deep wet look, or do you prefer long durability?

My car is black with a clear coat.
My car goes through SoCal weather.
I am looking for a wet finish with long durability if possible.
I dont mind purchasing products online.

You can use any number of quality products... a 3-step system with a pre-wax cleaner, sealer & Glaze and a pure carnauba can provide very nice results for darker colors and you can achieve nice results by hand.

A cleaner wax may be just fine initially, but you'll eventally appreciate the glaze as your paint sees more exposure.

I'd detail the trim with Back-to-Black and I'd likely clay it first, especially if it sits out much.

Mothers makes a good 3-step that's available at places like Pep Boys, which are all over So. Cal. -- buy one of each (I like the paste carnauba) and maintain it with the pure carnauba periodically, or something like FX Spray Wax after every other wash or so. You don't need to do all 3 steps but once or twice a year, but you'll want to use the carnauba every so often and the Sealer & Glaze as necessary to maintain a deep, clear gloss.

Meguiar's has similar products that are also pretty readily available.

There are so many choices so I know it's confusing, but you don't need to spend a whole lot of money, just don't go on the cheap... you now know what a paintjob costs, so you want to protect that.

Whats your opinion on the turtle wax? I still have half a bottle from before I painted my car. Should I finish that bottle or get something better?

If you have it, you might as well use it.

If you run out before the job is done, for "fun" you could do part of the car with TW and another part with something else. Use comparable sections so you get a better comparison.

Selecting a wax is not really a big dilemma... while a brand can affect ease of use and longevity (and sometimes that is a personal opinion)... using it often enough to protect your paint is probably the hardest part thing to do.

I'd go with a synthetic wax for durability, and then top it with a carnauba to add some depth.

There are so many choices, but here's some of my favoite products that are in the medium price range.

This list would cover most of your needs.

For 1-step synthetics applied by hand, I do like FX SynWax by Mothers.
