Gen5 Repainting yourself

I have an area of deep scratches and it feels like the clearcoat has been stripped. It feels like someone polished it in that area very deep like a dull feeling. I can see the primer on that spot. I want to know what the procedure would be to repaint that area myself. What grit sandpaper should I get and how should i go about in painting? Should i use those spray cans at auto zone? or the ones that comes in a nail polish like bottle.

I wish I could help, but I always leave that kind of stuff to a body shop. The most painting I ever do is fixing small chips.

The size of the primer area is about 2 inches in diameter. if that helps.
