Pin stripe removal!

I did a search, but didn't find many post about this! I decided to removed the pin stripe on my 11 y/o coupe. I've done it before on newer vehicles and it was a piece of cake, since they weren't baked on so, (hair dryer, and they came right off)! I figured the coupe wouldn't be so easy as there so old! There's a removal wheel that u attach to a drill, i'm told, and thats suppose to work, but my paint is 11 y/o too didn't want to take the chance with one, so here's what I did yesterday!

I first sprayed this Aircraft adhesive remover along the entire stripe, and let it soak in a few minutes

I then used a hair dryer, to heat up the stripe in 2-3" in sections, and used my "thumb nail" to scrape off the heated area. I did this on the entire front fender, then reapplied the 3M stuff again to remove the glue thats left behind. Wiped it down with a damp cloth, then used the Meguiras cleaner wax for a final cleaning! Did the same all around the car, fender, door, Qt panel....Here's the result...took about an hour +....Only problem! My thumb is alittle sore and I have a bunch of gold stripe under my finger nail!!

I'm glad I removed it! I think is looks better without the stripe. Thinking about removing the rear emblems too...Not sure!!?..Comments are appreciated!

(MOD'S maybe I started this in the wrong section! Feel free to move it if you choose!!)

I've been meaning to do this for a while too.... I took off my rear decals except for the center toyota badge... It has holes plus its elevated so it would look odd... I need to do some paint work so i'm thinking i'll just shave the trunk down the elevation where the badge is and paint it...

However I cant still see "toyota camry" where i took of the decal from the paint on my car fading... And the areas where I started taking off the pin stripe too... U never had this problem? I'm thinking i'll just pin stripe it over if it looks to bad, but in black to match

Ur car looks a while lot cleaner without the pinstripe... U should defiantely take off the badges... Becareful of holes under the badges, search the forum and check... But if anything u should atleast change it to chrome decals to match ur rims

Thanks! The "toyota" and "LE V6" don't have holes under them so those I could remove, easily (fishing line) but its been a difficult decision...my emblems are OEM, and aren't faded much, like others I've seen...(I'm not into gold tho!!) Still thinking....I too had a little ghost stripe after I removed it...the meguiars cleaner wax got rid most of it. or you could try clear coat compound, that may work for ya!.....I was thinking maybe a black emblems would look better!

removing graphics: Forget the hair dryer, use HEAT GUN

Too much work! A hair dryer is simply not hot enough for this chore. You needed a heat gun and a razor blade! I have to remove graphics from vehicles at work all the time, and i have tried every method you could ever think of to make this boring chore easier. HEAT GUN.

Just two things to remember, keep the heat gun moving and don't leave in one spot too long. No more than 10 - 20 seconds ought to melt the glue on even the stickiest decal or stripe. Also angle the razor blade right and you won't scratch anything. Do it right and the graphic just peels off and leaves behind no glue residue

nice but next time visit your local auto paint supply store and get a stripe eraser. it fits on a drill and takes off glue and all, no harm to paint. looks good though, cept now needs a graphic ,

I wouldn't recommend scrapping with a razor blade. I have used the eraser and it worked great, removed 11 year old graphics and stripes and left a nice shine. Eastwood has them for about $8.

soaked it in decal remover
used a dull razor blade and slid it under the stripe. came off in big sections
used polish paste and got rid of the stripe residue
