just sprayed a patch on my car and now its dull

ok so there was a ding in the rear quarter panel and my friend fixed it for me and sprayed a patch of orange primer. i went to walmart and bought a small can of beige auto spray and sprayed that patch of primer and then sanded with 1000 grit. now its smooth but dull. i used meguiars scratch x then waxed it but its still dull. do i have to spray a clear coat on it to make it shine or did i not polish enough ?

thanks

oh and also, does polish serve the same purpose as fine sand paper ?

I would do a clear coat, wetsand with 2000 grit, and then polish with real polish and a buffer, not ScratchX. You'll have to polish. Wetsanding alone won't do it.
