Used my PC for the first time...

And didn't get much result, honestly. I know the best products aren't available at a store, but I figured for my first time and some practice, I would use something I could get locally. I used Meguiar's Medium Cut (tan bottle, said the cut was about a 7 on a scale of 1-10) and the fine cut Swirl Remover 2.0 #9 (same color bottle). I used them on my mom's black '03 Avalon. I did a section about 2'x2' at a time, and worked it for about 5-10 minutes a section (took me 2 hours to do the car) until the polish was a haze and then wiped off the remaining. What did I do wrong? I don't have any pictures, but basically the swirl marks are still there. Some of them are less noticable, but I was expecting MUCH better results. Any ideas??

Nice Mustang! My first car was a '66.

What speed to you run the PC at when using the polish? I usually start at 4, and then move up to 5-6 to finish. And I usually only spend a couple minutes on a section. And what kind/color pad did you use?

If you didn't see any difference, then you weren't "activating" the cutting properties. I think this could happen by going too fast or too slow, using the wrong pad, etc.

Thanks for the compliments.

I used the orange cutting pad that I got with the buffer from Autopia. I started at about speed 3 to spread the polish around, then finished on 5. Maybe I was just expecting too much? I honestly thought they would be gone. They are light swirls. I can try and get some pics later, but no promises. I want to get this done so I can do it on the Mustang and I'm a pro at it by the time I can finally afford my dream Tacoma Double Cab!

Try it again. Practice some more. Use a little more polish on your pad, and put some more downward pressure on the buffer. Just start out slow to get the polish spread around, then speed it up to 5 and go to work, back and forth. Finish it on speed 6 and then lighten up the pressure on the last pass. This light pass makes the polish easier to wipe off.

heyy sory to steal this thread.

i used meguiars fine cut on half of my trunk and the light 'swirls' came out but theres still a lot of scratches on the car. they're not deep. they seem to only be a little deeper than the light swirls. they're still there ><

i used the PC on 3 and 4 going back and forth slowly (around 1 inch per second) and put around 1-3 pounds of pressure on it. and i was doing that on a 2 foot by 2 foot for around 1 minute. it was fine cut on the umm 'enhancer' pad (the middle one). i did an X of polish on the pad. the diameter of the polish that came out on the foam applicator seemed to be just slightly more than the hole of the bottle...

is it because fine cut isn't suppos to remove anything deeper than the light swirls ? cause i'm sure it can. i must be doing something wrong ><
i know putting it in words doesn't provide much detail but.. iunno

oh and btw... the vibrating PC makes my hand all red and itchy. it kinda hurts lol
whats with that >< gahh

thanks for ur help =]

well ima try again tomorrow. see what happens.
any tips ?

PS. it was my first time and yeah i realize u can't do anything perfect first time and everything requires practice. sooo juss some tips please =P

Keep practicing. You'll get better results after you've done a few vehicles.

Get some medium cut polish and a firm pad. Speed it up to #5, then do a few finish passes on #6.

Don't hold the buffer so tight and it won't hurt your hands. Hold it kinda loosly, but keep control of it. I don't use the screw-in handle. I just hold the body of the buffer. It seems to vibrate less without the handle.
