Waiting period for waxing?

I've had my Tacoma for about 2 months now and was planning on waxing it this weekend. I told this to a guy at my work and he freaked out, saying that he knows someone who bought a new car and stripped paint off of it by waxing it, b/c "you're supposed to wait a year and a half before you wax a new car!!!!" This is the first i've heard of this theory and just wanted to verify that it was ok to wax the truck already. Thanks a lot, guys.

What BS!

New vehicles paint is cured in an "oven". No need to wait. My truck came right off the factory delivery truck, and I polished and waxed it 2 days later.

The only time I ever refrain from waxing a vehicle is if it has just had some paint work done at a body shop. And even then I only wait about 6 weeks.

wow, then I must have no paint on my car. It's 2½ years old and I've waxed it 5 times already.

I put Klasse AIO, SG and Meguiars #26 wax on my car about 2 months after I got it...Pretty sure there is still paint on the car.

LOL, thanks for the quick replies. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy for thinking this. Looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend
