waxed fir first time

so i just waxed the front end of my truck, this was my first waxing job ever.

earlier today i washed it, and was about to wax, but was told not to because it was too hot and to wait later tonight.

was it bad that i waxed on not a dirty truck, but a truck that was driving around a few hours after washing? i only did my hood, fenders, flares, and chrome grille surrounding.

Me personally, i wouldnt wax a vehicle inless it was just freshly washed. Driving it around like that probably didnt get much dirt/dust on it, but all it takes is alittle bit.

yeah.. the paint felt rough to begin with, right after the wash. but now its smooth as can be. whats the worst that can happen? swirls? id eventually get them anyways.. and its a silver truck hard to see.

Actually what i do is when if i wash my truck in the morning, i wait till late afternoon to wax. I hit it with some detailer spray and wipe with a microfiber towel where i want to wax to remove any dust.

ohh god you just did the Car Care deadly sin. ALWAYS USE MICROFIBER. I'm sure your fine but terri cloth will swirl your paint, especially if you buff in a circlular motion. Remember mircofiber only! you can get them at any automotive store, but i get mine from Target or Walmart in big packs. Check the car care thread in the maintanence sticky here, it'll lead you the right way.

uh oh.... alright, ill go get some micro fibers as of right now. but for terri cloths, does it swirl in time.. or start the first time you use them? i figured it would get swirls no matter what while washing with a sponge and shammy.

Yea little things getting in the wash mitt or sponge will eventually swirl your paint, but the fact that your using a soap, lubricates it so unless you like resting your sponges in sand swirling should be a problem. Terri cloth just isn't fine enough for buffing, it'll definitly swirl, just look at a car thats just been dried by old terri cloth towels.

You need to clay first. Especially since you said that the paint felt rough. Read the How to Detail sticky.
