its just like sanding. you start off with a course cut, then you move on to a finer cut to remove the lines from the previous compound.
what did you use to polish it? rubbing compound? if so, you can step down to like a polishing compound, do the same thing, then wax it. youll have a hard time getting the swirls out by hand though.
