Cleaning Gauges

Any one know a way that you can clean the clear cheap plastic that is in front of the gauges. I swear if I even touch it with my finger it scratches it. There is a ton of dust on it and I want to clean it off but I dont want it to be all scratched up. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Just take a microfiber cloth and dust if off. If there are any scratches, just take some Meguiar's Plast X, apply it to an applicator, and work it in to the gauges until it breaks down. Then, wipe off excess.

Not sure if there's any way around that. Just use a quality microfiber towel dry and just wipe it down. Don't get those crappy towels from Target, Wal-Mart, etc. Get quality ones from pakshak.com or http://www.autopia-carcare.com/washing---drying.html.

It really sucks that this "tough truck" guages and other internal clear plastic parts are complete shit. Can't even clean without scratching..and yes I have $10+ microfiber cloths.

A plush microfiber with some non-ammonia glass cleaner would be good, or a light detailer.

Yup, our plastic gauges are real soft. I use a soft Megs detailing brush, and a vacuum hose nearby to suck up the loosened dust.

If you have some funk on your guages and you need to wipe the guages clean then i would use a tight knit MF towel. No cheap WalMart stuff. Don't spray any liquid directly on the guages. Spray it lightly on the towel first.

There are several products that work, the only downside (which I found out the hard way) is that any polish you use may get caught in the edges and be really hard to get out. So, you might avoid the extreme edges if you can.

I used plastic polish on my temp/speedo/tach/fuel plastic years ago and I had crusties stuck in the edges for a while. I had to go in there with a Q-tip to get it all out.
