CLEAN BEHIND THEM!
I have come to the conclusion that if you dont clean behind them, then the dirt will come right off and make the front of the rims dirty again. So yeah, just a little heads up
I've never cleaned behind the rims...I guess because I've kept them so clean over the years, maybe the soap and water than runs back there keeps them from getting too dirty.
However, I have seen rims that were so bad that every time you hosed them off, black water would drip down from the back. I think that's just from years of neglect. Or, it could be just the nature of the wheel; the way it's designed, maybe water runs from inside to outside, taking all the crap with it. Mine don't do that.
Also, as I've said before, once your wheels are perfectly clean, keep a good coat of wax on them. Dirt will stick less and they'll be easier to clean next time around.
So far I haven't run the same rim long enough to get the inside very dirty!!...but when I wash the rim i reach in a clean between the spokes and clean them the best I can!

Brake dust turns red after a while - especially if you have ferrous brake pads. I've seen them permanently discolor alloys before because the rain washes the car for the guy.
