82 is relatively mild so using the orange pad will give it a little more bite. I'd suggest 80 for real swirl removing power.

You should start with the least abbrasive pad and move up if necessary. How bad is the condition of the paint?

i just took a look at the paint and it doesnt look bad. i just want to do some really good polishing since i've had the truck for over a year already. so you recommend using a polishing pad with #82? you think i should switch to soemthing less abbrasvive like poorboys ssr1?

You should claybar your truck before polishing if you haven't done it already. Start polishing with #82 to get rid of the larger swirls then step up to a finer polish to get rid of any fine swirl marks.

you can always start with the SSR1 on a small panel, see if you're happy with the results. If not you can go back with the #82 then go to SSR1.
