end of season wheel storage

Summer is soon coming to an end, and fall won't last too long. So the white powdery stuff should be here before you know it.

Now I know most of us have seperate summer wheels and winter wheels. My question is, what do you guys do to your wheels before putting them away for winter. Do you guys just clean, polish and perhaps even wax the front of the wheel? Or do you give the same treatment inside the wheel as well?

I am planning to use wheel cleaner and a brush to scrub the wheel, then proceed with some old clay bar and QD, then use mother's power polishing ball along with Eagle's nano wheel polish. Then finally some wax on top of it, but still haven't decide on what wax to use.

So are you guys doing the same thing?? Or have a different approach?

Thanks

Just curious...do you have one set of tires for year round (in other words, are you storing your wheels bare or with tires attached?). Also, what type of wheels are we talking about (steel, aluminum, etc.) and where do you store them?

Anyway, your approach sounds like a good one to me...and definitely finish up with a wax.

Just my two cents.

OK; gotcha.

I don't have a lot of experience with winterizing wheels (actuallty zero), but again, I think your approach is a good one (clean them and then wax them).

Maybe someone else from a little further North has different advice based on experience?

I usually mix some car wash concentrate with water, and thoroughly clean my RPF1's, front and back.

No chemicals besides that.

Storage is in my basement.

Are they bare aluminum or clear coated? More than likely they are clearcoated, in that case you wouldn't want to use that nano wheel polish, which I think is made for bare metals. If they are clearcoated just treat them like your car bodys paint. Clean, polish, and wax.

If your wheels are in fact bare aluminum then I would recommend mothers Billet Aluminum polish with the powerball mini. Bare aluminum wheels require a lot of attention to keep them looking good, which is why most wheel manufacturers put some kind of coating on their wheels, unless they're custom built.

According to their web site, their stuff is safe for clearcoated wheels. That doesn't mean it is...or that even if it is, it is the best choice...but they claim it is safe. I have no experience with this product.

If seperate wheels and tires and you are not using nitrogen let about 1/2 of the air pressure out of the tires. Store tires off any surface which could have moisture, keep tires out of the sun.

I wouldn't expect great results from that Nano polish.

When it comes to wheels I like a product that's designed for one specific application. I use aluminum polish for bare aluminum wheels. I use chrome polish for chrome wheels. I use regular polish and wax on clearcoated, painted, or powdercoated wheels.
