The family's Matrix got key'd! :(

hey guys... someone keyed my dads matrix while i was parked helping my friend in a self wash before i was going to do mine.. the scratch goes from rear passenger quarter panel all the way to the front fender.. thankfully the damage was light enough.. on certain spots you can feel the mark, but in some you can't. it wont show up on my camera really because no light on the car.

Is there anything I can do besides bring it to a body shop? Do you guys think it'll buff right out? and usually how much does it run to buff it?

i'm quite sad when i try to help my dad out by washing the car and instead it gets key'd. thanks guys..

Based on your description, you can most likely make it look a whole lot nicer...the very faint areas should go away completely and the areas you can feel should end up looking 'better'.

Hand polishing will work, but it will take longer.

What color is it? The lighter the color, the more you can 'get away with' by doing it yourself.

i had a similar problem, 2 big scratches within 2 weeks on a new truck... they look minimally better after washing and a little quick detailer but it's going to need a good buffing to tell what will need work.

i'd suggest what i'm going to do.... find a local place that does polishing and scratch repair and ask them to see if it will polish out first.
