303 Protectant

After reading all the posts about how awesome 303 Aerospace Protectant is, I found a retailer nearby and went and bought some. Figured hey, this is the good stuff, so I went ahead and got the 32oz bottle. Most expensive trim stuff I ever bought. Couldn't wait to get home and try it. So, I grabbed a MF cloth and started on my drivers door. Did all the vinyl and the rubber weather stripping. Looked great as it was going on. But within a minute or two after it dried, I couldn't even tell that I had done anything to the door.

Is it just me? Is there something I'm missing here? I thought it was just a wipe it on kind of thing.

It's pretty thin stuff. It's for protecting, and not so much for looks. Try adding another coat. Apply it with a foam applicator. Your MF towel might be soaking it all up.

OK. Maybe I was too hasty. I'll try recoating tomorrow and see what happens. Maybe my vinyl was just so undertreated that it's soaking it up more than I expected. Didn't have time for multiple coats today.

I use this stuff because I like the matte look, not the shiny greasy look that most other protectants leave. Just do a thorough job and you will get good protection from 303. Try their fabric guard stuff too...amazing product!

I'm not looking for the shiny/greasy look, but I was hoping to get rid of the dry/untreated look. I was thinking this would give me more of a satin finish as opposed to a high gloss finish. After one coat I couldn't even tell I had put anything on it. As I said though, I'll try recoating today, and report back.

Thanks for the feedback.

OK. I guess I just panicked a little after plunking down the money for the 303 when I put on the first coat and it appeared to do nothing.

I did two more coats on my driver's door, and now it looks really good. I guess the vinyl was just more neglected/dried out than I realized and the first coat just got totally absorbed and disappeared or something. With two subsequent coats I now have a nice satin sheen, and the door looks like new.

Thanks guys.

You could try a foam applicator too. I use one to dress my tires and it works great. The MF towels seem to soak too much up.
