Temperature and Detailing????

I am looking to wash, clay bar, wash again, polish and wax my Tacoma within the week if my schedule and the weather works out. It has been in the high 40's to low 50's for the past week or two and was wondering if that is warm enough to do the above outside. I don't have access to a bay or heated area, but I would really like to get this done before it gets really cold and winter really strikes.

By the way this is what I plan on using-- Meguirs gold class car wash
Mothers clay bar kit
Wash again with Meguirs gold class car wash
Meguirs polish
lastly-Meguirs NXT generation synthetic wax

Does this combination sound good to protect through the winter?

In theory I know it should be done again during the winter, but in reality, I won't be washing my truck in 20 degree weather. I might wash it with a gentle car wash here and there to keep the NXT generation on, but doing the whole process again will have to wait until spring.

Yeah, you should be fine. I'd wait until the warmest part of the day. Store your products inside the warm house until right before you're ready to use them.

I would say the temperature is fine. Like Pb said store the stuff in a warmer climate. As far as products go the Mequiars stuff is OK. I use Klasse products and these products last very long. I usually get 6 months before I have to re-apply. It helps to use a PC rotary buffer too. If you go to Autopia and search under their forums you can get some great ideas. I also use a BMW forum called www.bimmerforums.com to get a lot of great ideas too. The bimmer drivers can really detail! Check those sites out. Also, if you run it through a car was you really should re-apply if possible, and when detailing wash your car with Dawn soap because it is very strong and strips the old wax giving the new stuff an easier time to bond too. Good luck!

Prior to doing the clay bar should I wash the car with Dawn soap? Also, Can I find that Klasses in a local store or do I have to order it online?

Especially keep the clay warm...it will be like a brick if you let it get too cold.

Lots of people throw around the Dawn thing, but I don't really recommend it myself. It was something Zaino recommended using prior to that line of products, and has spilled over to the detailing rituals of some people.

It hasnt been proven that Dawn removes a high quality sealant anyway. Your much better off using a product designed for sealant removal, such as a chemical cleaner or polish, and keep the Dawn off the more sensitive trim or other exterior pieces. I dont believe theres any short term damage to those pieces if used a few times, but why bother? Dawn is actually a very strong cleaner and is not Ph balanced for use on automotive paint.

There's nothing like a gentle wash, clay and polish/cleaning, followed by a users favorite sealant to bring out the best in the paint.

I actually broke down and just bought the Klasse Concours Kit. I think I have been getting obsessed with this detailing stuff ever since I bought my new Tacoma. I always leased vehicles and never truly cared about them. This is actually the first vehicle I have ever owned so I am kind of obsessed. During my research, I haven't found any negative feedback on the Klasse line of products. Does anybody have anything bad to say about the Klasse line of products? Any tips? So now the process is...
1- Wash the vehicle with Meguirs Gold Class car wash
2- Mothers clay bar kit
3- Re-wash the vehicle again with Meguirs Gold Class car wash
4- Klasse all-in-one
5- Klasse high gloss sealant glaze

I need advice from the experts, that is why I am here--thanx in advance

By the way, I bought the kit from www.properautocare.com and the direct link to the Klasse Concours kit is http://www.properautocare.com/klasconkit.html The guy Barry I spoke to is very knowledgable and is a really nice guy. He is easy to talk to and actually spent some time with me on the phone. I recommend.,,,,,,,I have spoke to several opinion and there advice on the Dawn is a big Nay. I think I might stay away just because I got more negative advice on dish detergant than positive.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but it looks like you firgured out what you needed! As far as Dawn is concerned, I have been using this method for years and years. I wouldn't use Dawn if you aren't going to protect the surface that the Dawn touched. For my cars, every surface the dawn touches it gets protected so I feel as long as its protected again its fine to use.

Related question.

Should all my waxes, polishes, etc., be stored indoors during the winter. I'm not aware of any of my old over the counter stuff ever freezing in my garage, but am wondering if maybe it would be better to move stuff to the basement storage room where it stays warm over the winter. Especially now that I'm buying better products :-)

If it's not an inconvenience, do it. Almost everything does better when not subjected to temperature extremes.

I bought the same kit two years ago from them and love it. The first couple of times that I applied the Klasse, I had it on too thick and the results weren't great. Once I figured out the correct amount to use, the results were amazing.
